“Let us stop running exam factories. Let us start instead to deliver hope.” Former Schools Minister Lord Jim Knight, delivering the National Education Museum’s 4th Fred Jarvis Memorial Lecture on 27th June 2026, focussed his attention on the close to one million young people in England not in education, employment or training (NEET). Calling for a broader curriculum with teaching for young people on how to think, create and apply knowledge, Jim Knight offered five answers which together might provide a solution for an education system that he believes to be misaligned.
